STAR WARS

The franchise began with George Lucas's vision for a "space fantasy" after he was unable to secure the rights to Flash Gordon. Original Trilogy (1977–1983): Star Wars (later A New Hope) debuted in 1977, followed by The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). The success led Lucas to create Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) to pioneer special effects. Prequel Trilogy (1999–2005): After a 16-year hiatus, Lucas returned to tell the origin of Darth Vader with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Disney Acquisition (2012–Present): Disney purchased Lucas
